I’m back from my 3 days of rest and relaxation with my family in northern Wisconsin. Since I didn’t have any internet connection there, I had to get out my thoughts one way or another, so I actually sat down and wrote the ol’ fashioned way: pen and paper. Here’s what was on my mind…
I’ve been enlightened, for lack of a better word, of what relaxing is–or what it means to me.
Before I associated relaxing with sitting in the quiet, reading, or just generally being alone. But I recently realized what relaxing really is: Doing what you find enjoyable. It doesn’t have to be a slow moving activity, it can be intense, as long as you enjoy the activity.
I’ve realized that doing what I’ve seen other people do to relax or unwind is actually more irritating and annoying for me to do. Sitting down and reading a book, is far from relaxing to me. Listening to music, playing sports, or being around my friends, is what puts me in a relaxed mood.
Relaxation takes place where you are comfortable. Most of the time being by myself isn’t relaxing. Call me socially dependant, but generally I like being around people; or more specifically, the ‘right’ people. Too many of us associate relaxation with things contradictory to our personalities and that in turn makes us stressed out. Find out what you enjoy doing and most likely you’ll be at ease.
I swear I’m not a doctor…if you hadn’t figured that out already. I just like sharing my thoughts, and apparently I was trying to contemplate the meaning of “relaxation”, however bizarre that may be.
