As talk increases more and more everyday about presidential nominees — who said this, who did that, who is…whatever — I am more compelled to write my thoughts on this whole thing. Also, now that I stop to think about it, I will be voting for somebody when the elections come rolling around, giving me even more of a reason to write this.
I guess I’ll start here:
I love history. I feel that I learn the most from history. I think that history teaches me the best lessons as I try to make decisions for the future. In saying that, I have seen my perspective on the world around me change drastically from taking my AP US History course at my high school. I have learned so many things besides everything I need to know for a test; I have learned what life was like, what it could be like, what others want it to be like.
Probably the most impressive thing to me has been learning about all the different political parties that have come and gone in our governments history. Whether they were crocks, revolutionaries, or radicals, they all made an impact no matter how many members they had, or how long the party lasted.
Mainly, looking at the politics of today, I say that we need this most. And from my understanding I realize that we will never get more than just the parties we have now.
I don’t like Republicans necessarily; I don’t like Democrats necessarily. (I’ll just leave Independents out of this.) Actually, I find them both equally corrupt and fake and selfishly motivated. I can listen to both parties moan and complain about each other and it won’t change my position because every complaint I hear from one side I can come up with an equally negative complaint about the other side. Political mudslinging doesn’t change my opinion whatsoever because, when it comes down to it, it is all overblown and exaggerated to begin with.
I really wish a party could be started where people from the moderate side of the political spectrum could run for president without the cumbersome titles of Democrat or Republican. If that can’t happen, than I just want a candidate who isn’t a sleezebag and isn’t looking for power. I want a candidate who doesn’t run commercials and doesn’t have a political analyst telling him/her all the right moves. I believe this country started with the vision that the average man could become a political hero — rarely has it happened, but at least way-back-when it was plausible. Nowadays, if you aren’t a multimillionaire with a famous husband/wife/uncle/cousin/mistress/brother-in-law/third cousin twice removed, you don’t have a chance.
I’m sure what I’m wishing and asking for will never happen, but if I ever become a politician, I can at least wish that I won’t resemble the politicians I see now.

I am so with you on this. I am ready for a moderate party to come to the front, free of leftist or rightist labels and idealogies, that can just focus on doing what is best for the country.
