Yesterday I was taking my friend’s senior pictures and while we were walking to a location to take said pictures I noticed another photographer holding a Nikon D200 and some kind of expensive telephoto lens. Every time that I run into photographers and I’m holding my camera I feel like I should say something. I’m not sure why, it just seems like the polite thing to do. Besides, I get excited when I see another photographer.
So I made eye-contact with him and asked with a smile, “Is that the D200?”
“Yep.” He didn’t even smile. He just smirked and made me feel dumb for asking. Basically his response sounded like, “Of course it is…what else could it be?”
That is where our conversation ended and I just kept walking.
And this brings me to a conclusion: photographers are either really anti-social when they are taking pictures, or they just really don’t like talking about photography in public.
I came to this conclusion because every time I stop and talk to photographers they always sound like I am wasting their time. Whether I ask them what kind of equipment they have or what subject they are shooting, they always shrug me off like an annoying kid with a camera.
I wonder if they look at me and think that I’m just not old enough and therefore not worthy enough to discuss the finer points of photography and the whole art philosophy that is photography.
Personally, when I get older, I will love to talk to anyone about photography, regardless of age.

goes to show: photographers are jerks.. ALL of them!
I think it’s probably just that some people have a hard time responding to people who come up randomly and talk to them. I know instant connections are super hard to make, and I wouldn’t get down to hard on the guy. Maybe he was just having a bad day…
